Paramount Global and President Trump reportedly will begin mediation in the next few days in his $ 20 billion lawsuit over the ’60 -minute CBS news interview with Kamala Harris.
Both sides tapped a mediator for the case in recent days, reported the New York Times on Monday, citing anonymous sources.
The measure comes after the deadline for the $ 8 billion agreement of Paramount to join Skydance Media, which expired on Monday, took 90 days.
If the deal is not yet closed by then, it will undergo a second 90-day stretch.
Automatic extensions are promoted in the event that “all conditions of closure, except those related to regulatory approval, have been satisfied or removed”, according to the companies’ agreement.
Trump’s trial accuses the CBS news program of fraudulent editing an interview with a democratic presidential candidate to ask her words to a question about Israeli-Hamas conflict more coherent.
CBS has denied that there was anything bad in its editing process.
However, both sides began to talk about a possible solution over two months ago, about the concern of “60 minutes” employees who believe the program did nothing wrong.
The highest show manufacturer Bill Owens told employees at a meeting in February that he would not apologize as part of any possible solution.
Last month, lawyers for CBS News filed a motion to dismiss the president’s lawsuit, claiming to be a “confirmation of the first change without a basis in law or fact.”
Meanwhile, others in the companies want to have experience and believe that it is better for the broader interests of the paramount corporation to resolve the lawsuit than to be involved in a prolonged legal battle with the President.
A representative for the Global Paramount, who is home to CBS, MTV and showtime, refused to comment.
Lawyers for Trump did not immediately return the commentary requests.
Ed Paltzik, a lawyer representing Trump in the case, told Times in a statement: “President Trump will pursue this vital issue for his right and fair conclusion.”
In addition to the lawsuit, Paramount is also dealing with the Federal Communications Commission, which is also investigating Trump’s allegations of establishing Harris.
In February, FCC issued a complete transcription of the “60 -minute” interview, and is currently considering if the broadcast violated the “news distortion” rules. FCC will need to approve the Skydance-Paramount union for the agreement to pass.
Trump said at the time that Paramount’s Union with Skydance had nothing to do with his lawsuit, and a spokesman for the media giant said the two are “completely separated”.
However, paramount shareholder Shari Redstone is said to say at a meeting of the Board of Paramount Directors in February that she was interested in bringing a mediator to facilitate an agreement and get the green deal.
The Hollywood Skydance company, which is run by David Ellison, the son of billionaire Oracle Larry Ellison, has also been eager to get the deal – which was originally entered last July – approved by FCC.
