Internet is annoyed by woman’s transparent phone – and the explanation is even more outrageous

A recent tiktok video showing a woman “moving” on a transparent phone there are people scratching their heads.

A woman named Cat (@askcatgpt) shared a video tiktok – which has now won over 50 million views – of herself staying in line in a boba tea store holding what seems to be a clear part of acrylic glass – instead of a smartphone.

The cat seems to be treating the “transparent” phone as if it were using a real smartphone, moving while it was bored, waiting in public. The text, “I’m sorry wtf is that ?????” It’s on the screen above it.

Many commentators were quick to assume that it is a Nokia phone: “Nokia transparent phone, released in October 2024,” wrote one person.

“It’S’S’S NEW PLEX from Nokia,” withdrew another person.

Many others were deceived by strange technology.

“She’s on a mission from the future,” someone wrote.

“Losing this would be a nightmare to find,” someone else called.

The “phone” she is actually holding out. And while people can buy it – it’s not for the reason that most would wait.

In a following video, Cat provided more context: “This is a Methafon. Exactly is exactly what looks-a clear part of acrylic in shape like an iPhone. But why does it exist?”

She continued to explain that her friend invented her: “He told me what she wanted to prove if we are all so dependent on our phones, then you can potentially restrain someone’s dependence by replacing the feeling of having a pocket with something that feels exactly the same?”

I’m sending a group of metaphones to people who have ideas for (safe) social experiments that they would like to run with them – explode it in the subway? Show a 5 year old? Replace your phone for a week? The only catch is that you need to write or document your experience in an online post (eg blog, middle, Substack, YouTube, Tiktok, IG, etc.) the goal is to continue the conversation. If you are interested, complete the super short survey in the connection to my bio! Let’s continue the conversation! #tech #metaphone

Cat stressed that the metaphone has already been sold.

She also speculated why so many people were intrigued by her viral video, thinking that it is because the plastic part “feels like a physical object that responds directly to this collective tension that our phones, which are intended to make us feel more connected, do the opposite.”

“Did I use my phone less over the past week I kept this [the acrylic phone] about me? Maybe not. But what do you think? “She asked her viewers.

“Do you think a single part of acrylic can actually start to help us get back in touch with humanity or is it just a strange party trick?” She continued.

Many people in the comments of her next video were not sold exactly in the strange concept.

“No one is dependent on holding phones, they are dependent on app,” challenged one person.

“I really hoped we were entering the Glass Cells Age,” someone else jokes.

“Sooo is not a phone … the end of the story,” wrote a disappointed commentator.

People may not be bumpy for this idea, however, the cat and its friend may be above something because a study by Amazon Kindle found that we are more dependent on our devices than we can think.

“Whenever we get a notice – whether it’s a ping, vibration or visual alarm – our brain perceives it as something that requires immediate attention,” said neuroscientist Dr. Mark Williams for News.com.au.

“This activates our cognitive control network, deviating concentration away from what we were doing.”
