Washington Post announced Monday that he was implementing another purchase program, this time aiming at veterans’ employees and other department employees.
“Today, we are announcing that Washington Post is offering a Volunteer Sharing Program (VSP) to news workers with 10 or more years of posting service, as well as for all members of the video department and for all members of the copy and table,” wrote the Washington Post Matt Memo Executive Officer in a Memo Memo.
Memo stated that the move was part of the “continuous efforts of transforming the editorial office in the Washington Post, aimed at reshaping and modernizing the editorial office for the current environment.”
“Like the rest of our industry, we are adapting to change habits and new technologies that are transforming news experiences. Although we have begun the creation of new departments and welcome new colleagues to reach the new audience, we need to increase the flexibility of our staff and expand in areas such as audience data,” continued.
Murray told staff that the purchase program would end by the end of July.
“With VSP, we will no doubt see colleagues and friends appreciated to decide to leave the post,” Murray wrote.
“But as administrators of this great institution, we must all remain ruthlessly focused on behavior of engaging and relevant journalism for an increasing number of readers in the formats and ways they want it in 2025. the strong, rigorous and independent newspaper. ”
According to a VSP document viewed by Fox News Digital, nine months of basic salary would be given to employees employed for 10-15 years, 12 months basic salary for veterans 15-20 years, 15 months of basic salary for veterans 20-25 years and 18 months for anyone who has worked in posting for more than 25 years.
All of them would also receive 12 months of salary loans in their special pension account (SRA).
A Washington Post personnel told Fox News Digital that the new purchase program is “less distinct” than previous purchase rounds because of how widespread it is, adding that copies are “always targets” and that they are “always underestimated”.
“Less important who stands or goes. Just want to subtract the numbers,” staff said.
A spokesman for The Washington Post told Fox News Digital, “The Washington Post is continuing its transformation to meet the needs of the industry, build a more sustainable future and reach the audience where they are. Americans. ”
The newspaper “Democracy dies in the dark” was hit by work earlier this year and previously implemented purchases in 2023.
The post reportedly was expected to lose a $ 77 million in 2024.
There has been an exodus of talent from the post in recent months, including some resignation following movements made by paper billionaire Jeff Bezos, who stopped approval of the post of former President Kamala Harris just days before the presidential election and his initiative announced earlier this year, ordering “personal freedoms” did their actions.
