The FBI director, Kash Patel, has filed a lawsuit in Texas against a MSNBC columnist who claimed that the official spent more time in the “nightclubs” than inside the Bureau headquarters in Washington, DC.
Patel is sueing Frank Figliuzzi for “fabricating a specific lie” for him, according to court documents, that is, “Patel reported) visible in nightclubs much more than he was on the seventh floor of the Hoover building”.
The defendant knew this was a lie when he said it, “Patel’s lawyers claimed.” … Since becoming FBI director, director Patel has not spent a single minute within a nightclub. “
The lawsuit also claimed that “there was no basis for the defendant’s fabrication, and the use of the defendant of the word of braids,” reported “, is in itself a fabrication”.
“The defendant did not rely on reporting by any other person,” the lawyers said in appearance. “The defendant made up the story from a whole cloth, and using the word” reported “, tries to distance himself from what is a statement of false and defamatory regret.”
The lawyers claim that the claim of figliuzzi constituted slander, stressing that Figliuzzi previously wrote, “Patel is one of the most appropriate cabinet candidates-not only now, but of all time.”
“The defendant fabricated this story to discredit director Patel because of the defendant’s clear animation against director Patel,” his lawyers said.
“The defendant previously wrote, ‘Patel is one of the most appropriate cabinet candidates-not only now, but of all time.” And, ‘the motto of the FBI is loyalty, bravery, integrity.
“The defendant also wrote,” It is not only that Patel is fully unqualified to lead the deliberate law enforcement and intelligence agency in the country and perhaps the world … Patel’s particular problem goes beyond competence: his record shows no commitment to the Constitution, but the blind loyalty to Trump. “
The FBI director also claimed that “as a partisan commentator (figliuzzi) was motivated to sensitize, and in this case, to fabricate a story to advance the self-promotion of his name at the expense of Pettel.”
Patel representatives refused to comment.
The court proceeding came just a month after MSNBC was forced to withdraw Figliuzzi’s claim on May 5.
“That was a misunderstanding,” MSNBC’s anchor Jonathan Lemire said at the time. “We have not verified that claim.”
NBC and MSNBC national security analyst had claimed that Patel’s absence from the FBI headquarters was “a blessing and a curse”.
“Because if he is really trying to guide things without his experience, without any level of experience, things can be bad,” Figliuzzi said.
“If he is not connected, things can be bad. But he is allowing agents to run things, so we don’t know where this is going.”
Figliuzzi did not immediately respond to a comment request.
