Republican interest in Musk invites after his quarrel with Trump, the new survey finds

Washington (AP)-Technology millioner Elon Musk has lost some of his brilliance with Republicans since his messy public falling with President Donald Trump last week, finds a new study.

Fewer Republicans see the Bulldog of the “very favorable” Trump government efficiency compared to April, according to the Associated Press-NORC survey of public publicity research.

Although most Republicans continue to maintain a positive view of Musk, their reduced fire suggests his loud opposition to Trump’s signature costs and tax reduction legislation – and subsequent political and personal internet tann – may have dedicated him enthusiasm within the party.

“Some things have happened recently that have changed the way I feel a little about it,” said Alabama Katye Long, whose feelings for Musk have cooled into “somewhat favorable”.

“I liked what he was doing when he was helping. But now I feel like he was hurting,” said the 34-year-old of automobile components and the mother of three children from Woodstock, Alabama. “I also don’t feel like he matters a lot. He’s not actually part of the government. He’s just a wealthy guy pushing his thoughts.”

Musk’s overall popularity has not moved, the survey was found, and most of the displacement between Democrats and Republicans was between “many” and “somewhat” thoughts. Americans are less likely to see him favorably than his electric vehicle company, Tesla. That is to say, about half of Americans have a negative opinion of Tesla, highlighting another challenge for Musk when the company has fallen valuable and has been the target of protests in the US and Europe. About one -third have a favorable view of Tesla, while about 2 in 10 do not know enough to say.

The enthusiasm of the Republicans faded but also the antipathy of the Democrats

Even a delicate shift in the intensity of the Republican feelings for Musk can be important as the electric car and the airspace mogul weighs a second political act after spending about $ 200 million in the service of Trump’s 2024 election efforts.

After decrees the massive tax bill of tax policies and the GOP budget as “a disgusting disgust,” Musk wrote on X, his social media platform, “in November next year, we ignite all the politicians who betrayed the American people.”

The survey suggests that the disorderly dispute with Trump may have rubbed some Republicans wrong, as the part of the Republicans who see Musk as “very favorable” has fallen from 38% to April to 26% now. At the same time, the antipathy to the musk among the Democrats has slightly faded. About two -thirds, 65%, of Democrats have a very negative appearance of musk, just by about three -quarters, 74%, in April.

Bitter Musk back and on trump with Trump there are business implications as well. Tesla was already struggling with a reaction against Musk Trump’s association. Sales across Europe were plunged in half of May, although the growth in the electric car market accelerated. The company’s shares then plunged in value when Musk began to publicly sparrow with the president.

Victoria Brown, from Kansas City, Kansas, praised Tesla “somewhat unfavorable” because she opposes how Trump is carrying out his administration and connecting the company owner with the president’s agenda.

“I don’t favor Trump. So much is the fact that they have worked together means I don’t care much about Tesla,” said Brown, 63, an independent political and an insurance agent.

The overall approval of Musk remains unchanged

While the intensity of people’s feelings for Musk may have changed, their general thoughts do not have. About one -third of American adults have a favorable thought for Musk, compared to about 6 in 10 that maintain an unfavorable appearance, while about 1 in 10 do not know enough to say. This is unchanged from the April survey.

The new survey took place June 5-9, after Musk left his government role and began attacking Trump’s Marque legislative priority.

Musk’s public clash with Trump began four days after Trump honored Musk effectively during an oval office event, removing him from his duties as head of the government’s efficiency department.

After topping the budget bill, Musk two days later complained that he had never seen the language, and he directed his fire to Trump, suggesting that the president did not appreciate the role Musk took as the main beneficiary in the Trump re -election attempt

“Without me, Trump would have lost the election, Dema would control the room and the Republicans would have been 51-49 in the Senate,” Musk wrote. “Such ungratefulness.”

Musk continued to claim without evidence that the federal government is hiding information about the Trump Association with the infamous pedophile Jeffrey Epstein. Musi deleted the post, and in early Wednesday he withdrew his attacks on Trump, writing on X that he regretted some of his posts and they “went far away”.

Tesla’s footage is much more negative than other car companies

Tesla endured the first difficult quarter in 2025, with her falling sales while the leading manufacturer of electric cars in the world faced protests in the exhibition hall. The new survey also shows that Tesla is seen much more negatively than some of her peers – especially Ford, Toyota and General Motors.

Only about one -third of American adults have a favorable “too” or “somewhat” view of Tesla. About half of American adults have an unfavorable opinion of Tesla, including 30% of Republicans. Democrats, at 66%, have more than twice as likely than Republicans to have a negative view of Tesla. But even among the Republicans, Tesla is seen less favorable than other brands.

Marisa Mills is not a fan of Musk. 41-year-old Oakland teacher California opposes his association with Trump and what the Democrat sees as their wrong notion that the government is always served well by acting as a business.

And yet she was once proud that Tesla built cars in her circuit. It was poured into the company in 2020, when Musk sued Alameda district for its workplace restrictions during the Coronavirus pandemic, before transferring the company to Texas in 2021.

“My government is supposed to serve people, not his society. We were all happy to see him go,” Mills said. “I’m sorry we now have feelings of regret for the Tesla car product. We used to be so proud.”

Beaumont reported from Des Moines, Iowa.

The 1,158 adults survey of the adults took place June 5-9, using a sample drawn by the Norc probability-based Amerispeak Panel, which is created to be a representative of the American population. The margin of sampling error for adults is generally plus or minus 4 percentage points.
