Washington (AP)-Technology millioner Elon Musk has lost some of his brilliance with Republicans since his messy public falling with President Donald Trump last week, finds a new study.
Fewer Republicans see the Bulldog of the “very favorable” Trump government efficiency compared to April, according to the Associated Press-NORC survey of public publicity research.
Although most Republicans continue to maintain a positive view of Musk, their reduced fire suggests his loud opposition to Trump’s signature costs and tax reduction legislation – and subsequent political and personal internet tann – may have dedicated him enthusiasm within the party.
“Some things have happened recently that have changed the way I feel a little about it,” said Alabama Katye Long, whose feelings for Musk have cooled into “somewhat favorable”.
“I liked what he was doing when he was helping. But now I feel like he was hurting,” said the 34-year-old of automobile components and the mother of three children from Woodstock, Alabama. “I also don’t feel like he matters a lot. He’s not actually part of the government. He’s just a wealthy guy pushing his thoughts.”
Musk’s overall popularity has not moved, the survey was found, and most of the displacement between Democrats and Republicans was between “many” and “somewhat” thoughts. Americans are less likely to see him favorably than his electric vehicle company, Tesla. That is to say, about half of Americans have a negative opinion of Tesla, highlighting another challenge for Musk when the company has fallen valuable and has been the target of protests in the US and Europe. Tesla’s footage is much more negative than other car companies

Only about one -third of American adults have a favorable “too” or “somewhat” view of Tesla. About half of American adults have an unfavorable opinion of Tesla, including 30% of Republicans. Democrats, at 66%, have more than twice as likely than Republicans to have a negative view of Tesla. But even among the Republicans, Tesla is seen less favorable than other brands.
Marisa Mills is not a fan of Musk. 41-year-old Oakland teacher California opposes his association with Trump and what the Democrat sees as their wrong notion that the government is always served well by acting as a business.
And yet she was once proud that Tesla built cars in her circuit. It was poured into the company in 2020, when Musk sued Alameda district for its workplace restrictions during the Coronavirus pandemic, before transferring the company to Texas in 2021.
“My government is supposed to serve people, not his society. We were all happy to see him go,” Mills said. “I’m sorry we now have feelings of regret for the Tesla car product. We used to be so proud.”

The 1,158 adults survey of the adults took place June 5-9, using a sample drawn by the Norc probability-based Amerispeak Panel, which is created to be a representative of the American population. The margin of sampling error for adults is generally plus or minus 4 percentage points.
