The long -term “60 -minute” executive manufacturer Bill Owens suddenly left on Tuesday, citing a loss of journalism independence while the parent company of CBA Paramount Global seems to resolve a lawsuit by President Trump.
“In recent months, it has become clear that I would not be allowed to run the show as I have always run it, to make independent decisions based on what was right for ’60 minutes,” for the audience, “Owens wrote in a memorandum for the staff taken from the post.
He added: “So after defending this show – and what we look for – from every corner, over time with everything I could, I am setting aside so that the show can move forward.”
Owens is only the third person who is helping Sunday iconic magazine Sunday evening in its 57-year history.
His departure marks a critical point for CBS News, which has increased the external and internal pressure – mostly from Trump and Global Paramount.
Trump filed a $ 20 billion lawsuit accusing the “illegal and illegal behavior” program of what he claims was the fraudulent editing of the “60 minutes” interview with Vice President Harris last October.
He has asked for a withdrawal and even suggested that the CBS transmission license be revoked.
“CBS is out of control, at levels has never been seen before, and they have to pay a big price for this,” Trump wrote on April 13 in a post on social media.
Legal experts have extensively dismissed the lawsuit as without merit, and Owens had previously refused to issue a pardon as part of any possible solution.
His resistance to political and corporate interventions is reported to have caused friction at the highest levels of paramount, especially with Shari Redstone, the company’s control shareholder.
Redstone, who is seeking federal approval for a Multibillion Dollars of Paramount to Skydance-led by David Ellison, the son of Oracle Larry Ellison co-founder-expressed interest in resolving the legal dispute with Trump.
Paramount’s leadership has closely monitored controversy, especially among the continued settlement talks, which have recently progressed with the appointment of a mediator.
According to people familiar with internal discussions, both Paramount and Skydance were alarmed by recent Trump internet attacks and are eager to avoid further interruptions.
In addition to Trump’s pressure, “60 minutes” has been under control by Redstone himself.
Following a critical segment of the treatment of the Biden Administration of the Israel-Hamas conflict transmitted, CBS Veteran manufacturer Susan Zirinsky was named in a new role that oversees the journalistic standards in the network-a action interpreted as a response to increased editorial tensions.
Despite the riots, Owens remained steadfast in his latest marking for staff.

It reaffirmed the network commitment to the mission of the show, saying that providing its integrity remains a major advantage.
Owens began his career at CBS as a summer trainee in 1988 and took over as “60 minutes” executive manufacturer in 2019.
He also previously led a reconstruction of CBS Evening News, strengthening his legacy as a significant figure in network history.
