Google is offering a new round of shopping for some employees and is hitting remote workers as it shifts more resources to the artificial intelligence race, the company confirmed on Wednesday.
The Big Tech giant, led by CEO Sundar Pichai, ordered remote workers in some teams to spend at least three days in the office a week. The mandate applies to remote workers living within 50 miles from an office.
“A number of teams are also asking remote employees living near an office to return to a hybrid work schedule in order to unite people more within people,” said Google Courtenay Mencini spokesman in a statement.
The push for returning to the office for remote workers is not a policy of the whole company and is being implemented based on the team by the team according to specific needs, the spokesman added.
The company also offered volunteer purchases for the members of the division that oversees its search engine, as well as those in its essential engineering team, and in marketing, research and communication units.
The tightening of the budget comes after Google lasted the same offer for members of the platform division and its equipment in February. American workers in teams have the right to apply regardless of their level and will receive a break if they receive the purchase.
“Earlier this year, some of our teams introduced a voluntary outlet program for S.BA -based googlers, and some are now offering the program to support our important work ahead,” Mencini said in a statement.
It was not clear immediately how many of the Google employees received the offer. The company had more than 183,000 employees since the end of last year.
The company’s shares were flat in Wednesday trade.

Google and other technology giants have reduced and restructured their labor forces while pouring tens of billions of dollars in advanced development.
The CFO alphabet Anat Ashkenazi said last October that the company would require “additional opportunities” to reduce costs.
Google also faces some adjacent regulatory risks after losing a large pair of antitrust cases brought by Doj.
A federal judge will decide until August whether to disrupt the Google’s search engine business, while another court has set a September trial to decide how to handle the company’s illegal monopolies in the digital advertising sector.
In both cases, Google has pledged to appeal.
Google previously fired about 12,000 employees in 2023 and several thousand extra employees in multiple teams throughout the year.
